The STEP-B Project is a Nigerian project on Science and Technology Education at the Post-Basic Level (STEP-B).
The objective of the STEP-B project is to achieve two goals that relate to education and research in Nigeria: (1) for Nigerian education and research institutions and their partners to produce more and better qualified science and technology graduates at the post-basic level (2) and for these same institutions to produce higher quality and more relevant research.
As the STEP-B project grows and its benefits become widespread four things will occur:
Who can participate in the STEP-B Project?
Which institutions are eligible depends on the criteria established for each component of the project. Taken together, the three STEP-B Project components allow for a wide and diverse set of participants:
All the Post Basic Education Institutions (PBEI's) should read the Grand Proposal Preparation Guide (GPPG) in conjunction with the STEP-B project implementation manual for which the GPPG is an annex.
The GPPG describes the information needed by proponents to components 1,2 and 3.
The STEP-B project fund is a competitive fund and is demand driven.
The proposals for components 1&2 must address priority issues identified in the study areas & synthesis report like being innivative, clearly focused, achievable & responsive to local & international science and technology related needs.
The proposal must demostrate evidence of impact at diferent levels, like strong link between the proposal initiator and the objectives of the institution from which they originated.
The proposal initiatives should be likely to impact on Nigeria economic development in relation to the development priorities as defined in NEEDS and the various SEEDS.
Each STEP-B proposal should state clearly implementing arrangements, workplan, a result framework, a monitoring and evaluation framework and a sustainability plan i.e Funding sustainability beyond the life span of the STEP-B project. The proposal should not include request for construction of buildings, pay salaries for institutions staff or cover students bursary.
